Set in the 1920s, Dodge Connolly is a hopeful and far aspiring coach for his small professional football team called the Duluth Bulldogs. To his dismay, the team loses their sponsors after a bad streak. Desperate, he enlists the help of an old friend, a college football player who is also famous. Together they worked to bring the team back into the sponsors favor.

As the team acquires fame, a spunky journalist named Lexie Littleton, begins to show interest. She is suspicious of the success of the team and focuses her attention on Dodge, who she doesn't want to admit sparks her interests romantically. Dodge completely falls for her, but he finds that through the rising chaos of fame and conflicts with the other coach and friend, who is also interested in her, that football is not the only game he’s out to win.
