Alex recalls how he arrived at the Central Park Zoo through a series of news flashes. When he was young back in Africa his name was Alakay. His father had him out on the savannah learning how to be a hunter. Much to his father’s despair, Alakay like to dance more than he did hunt. He was tricked by hunters chasing a rope through the tall grass and captured. When his father noticed he was missing he tried unsuccessfully to recapture him, but he was placed in a crate. It drifted to New York and he was given the new name Alex. He is now a phenom as the dancing lion. Alex and his friends decide to leave the zoo and answer the call to return to their roots. Their plane crashes and come at the mercy of penguins, chimpanzees and the king lemur. The plane is repaired, and they have a big send-off only to crash on the plains of Africa. As they look over the horizon, they take in the beautiful view and immediately there is deja’ vu. This is someplace they have been before. They recognize that they look just like all the animals on the plains. Alex is recognize and is rejoined with his parents. His father is so elated that he has come home to regain his place in the pride. But he is challenged and Alex misinterprets the nature of the challenge and loses. He is kicked out of the pride. The pride lands have a drought, and Alex figures a way to get water back. He becomes a hero and is accepted again by his parents and all the other lions for who he really wants to be.
