In the year 873, a group of Viking warriors, led by the brave Asbjorn (Tom Hopper), are sailing towards Britain to raid the monasteries and towns along the coast as part of their revenge on those who killed Asbjorn’s father. However, during the journey, the group’s longship is destroyed in a storm, and they are forced to make their way through Scotland on foot to reach the safety of the Viking stronghold of Danelagh.

The group includes a diverse cast of characters including the grizzled veteran warrior Sven (Ken Duken), the hot-headed and impulsive Harald (Ryan Kwanten), and the fiercely loyal Bovarr (Charlie Murphy). As they journey through the harsh Scottish landscape, they encounter a group of Picts who have an intense hatred for the Vikings and seek revenge for past wrongs. The Vikings must face not only the Picts but also the treacherous terrain and harsh weather in their quest for survival.

As the group presses on towards Danelagh, they encounter a Christian monk named Conall (Ed Skrein) who offers his help in exchange for protection from the Picts. Conall turns out to be more than just a religious scholar, as he possesses knowledge that proves helpful to the Vikings in their journey.

The group faces many challenges, both external and internal. They must deal with their own desires for revenge against those who have wronged them in the past, as well as the realities of the harsh Viking way of life. Asbjorn is a strong and capable leader, but he must balance his sense of duty to his men with his own desire for revenge against those who have wronged his family.

Despite the harsh realities they face, the group begins to coalesce into a family of sorts, with each member offering their unique skills and strengths to the group. They learn to trust one another and to rely on each other in battle and in times of hardship.

One of the film’s most striking features is its gorgeous cinematography. The Scottish landscape is both stunningly beautiful and incredibly harsh, with sweeping vistas and rocky terrain. The visual effects are also impressive, particularly during the storm sequences and battle scenes.

The film offers a realistic portrayal of the harshness of Viking life, while also highlighting the importance of loyalty and familial bonds in the face of adversity.
