Out to Sea is a romantic comedy starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathau, Diane Cannon, Gloria DeHaven, Brent Spinner and Rue McClanahan. This movie contains mild language and adult themes. The film has a running time of one hundred and nine minutes. Trying to hide from his list of bookies, Charlie cons his brother-in-law widower Herb into going on an all-expense-paid cruise. Herb doesn't want to go, but Charlie convinces him by making him believe that he has his best interest at heart and wants to help him get over some of his depression over the death of his wife. Little does Herb know, but Charlie hasn't really paid for the cruise. Instead he has signed them up as dance instructors. Charlie thinks it will be easy to just stay on board and skip his job, but the cruise director, Gil Godwyn, is a thorn in their sides. He follows them everywhere and insists that either they dance with the guests, or they will be thrown off the ship. Charlie becomes scared and begs Herb to teach him how to dance. In the meantime, two women, Liz LeBreche and a widow named Vivian, both become involved with the pair. Charlie sees Liz as his ticket to get out of debt and plays as if he is a wealthy man himself. Vivian meets Herb while dancing, and the two learn that they have things in common. The remainder of the show revolves around Charlie and Herb trying to win over the ladies and avoid Gil at all costs. There is a series of comical encounters both on board and off the ship. Finally, the two manage to get their women, but only after Charlie finds out his wealthy heiress is really a con artist too and flat broke. This film features a number of appearances from classic television and movie stars, as well as big band music.
