Pharoah's Army is the 1995 Civil War drama about a small group of Union soldiers who take refuge at the home of a Kentucky woman and her son. The movie was written and directed by Robbie Henson. In 1862, a group of Union soldiers led by U.S. Army Captain John Hull Abston (Kris Kristofferson) arrive in the town of Meshack Creek, Kentucky. This particular town is on a powder keg due to the sharp division between Confederate and Union loyalists. Several terrible incidents have already taken place and innocent blood has been shed. Sarah Anders (Patricia Clarkson) lives on a remote farm with her son (Will Lucas) while her husband is away fighting with the Confederate Army. Captain Hull's band of soldiers are in search of food in the area. After one of the soldiers is injured, they are forced to take refuge at the Anders farm. Although Sarah is outraged at the idea of Yankees taking over her land, she offers little resistance to keep herself and her son safe. The relationship with Captain Hull and Sarah is very tense because of the horrors she has witnessed first hand and her deep mistrust of the Yankees. Captain Hull must balance the delicate task of being a soldier and a peacekeeper. As time goes on, the tension between Sarah and Captain Hull lessens. Both are going through a great deal of suffering and at times lean on each other for support. Hull's loyalty is put to the test when conflict arises between he and his soldiers. Several of his soldiers raze the farms of nearby townspeople who have already been rendered destitute due to the war. At the film's climax, Sarah's son is forced to take matters into his on hands to keep he and his mother safe.
