Pitaah is a 2002 Hindi-language drama-thriller film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Nandita Das, Sachin Khedekar, and Tanvi Hegde in pivotal roles. The central theme of this movie revolves around the importance of family and the lengths a man goes to protect his loved ones. The film begins with Rudra (Sanjay Dutt), a ruthless gangster, who has a reputation for being a cold-blooded killer. He lives with his wife, Paro (Nandita Das), and two children, Gauri and Sahil (Tanvi Hegde and Sachin Khedekar, respectively). Rudra is a possessive and over-protective father who does not hesitate to use violence to protect his family.

As the story progresses, we see that Sahil is a rebellious teenager who hates his father's way of life. He is ashamed of his father's profession and often gets into trouble at school. However, Rudra has a soft spot for his son and is willing to do anything to make him happy.

One day, Sahil befriends a new girl in school, Anjali (Shivani Rangole). Anjali's father is a police officer who is determined to bring Rudra to justice. When Rudra learns about his son's friendship with Anjali, he is furious and warns Sahil to stay away from her. Sahil, however, defies his father's orders and continues to meet Anjali in secret.

As the relationship between Sahil and Anjali deepens, Rudra's enemies start using Sahil as leverage to get to Rudra. This leads to a series of events that force Rudra to confront his violent past and protect his family from harm.

Pitaah is a compelling film that explores the complex dynamics of a family plagued by violence and crime. The performances of the lead actors are outstanding, especially Sanjay Dutt's portrayal of Rudra, which is both intimidating and vulnerable. Nandita Das is also brilliant as Paro, a woman torn between her love for her husband and her fear for her children's safety.

The film's direction by Mahesh Manjrekar is top-notch, with a perfect balance of gritty realism and emotional depth. The screenplay is well-written, with well-drawn characters and a tight narrative that keeps the audience hooked till the end.

The movie's music, composed by Anand Raj Anand and Rahul Ranade, is another highlight of the movie. The songs are soulful, and the background score is intense, adding to the tension of the film.

Overall, Pitaah is a must-watch film that delves into the themes of love, loyalty, and sacrifice. It is a riveting drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning till the end.
