Reversion is a 2015 science fiction thriller that takes place in the near future. The film opens with an explanation that in the year 2025, a new gene-editing technology called CRISPR was discovered, capable of curing diseases and even extending life. However, this biotech revolution came at a price. Certain individuals with weak genomes struggled to survive, and a mysterious company named LifeSolutions emerged to assist, claiming to offer gene therapies to keep patients alive. The government began funding the company’s treatments, and while they showed immediate results, there were suspicions that something wasn't quite right.

The story follows Sophie Clé (Aja Naomi King), a brilliant and driven researcher for LifeSolutions. She has been working with the cybernetics department to develop a new version of CRISPR that can be used to treat damaged neural networks. When her brother dies of a stroke, a seemingly random and isolated incident, Sophie suspects that the company and its treatments might be involved. She starts to dig deeper and realizes that there are people dying in high numbers following LifeSolutions' treatments, and she sets out to uncover the truth.

Sophie’s journey takes her through a world of corporate conspiracy, love, and espionage as she struggles to unravel a sinister plot that threatens to tear everything apart. She becomes involved with a former corporate spy, James (Colm Feore), who works for an underground group that is actively monitoring and resisting LifeSolutions. James guides her through the seedy underbelly of a future Toronto, unraveling dangerous and complex mysteries along the way.

Things come to a head when a powerful foreign government gets involved, posing a major threat to both LifeSolutions and underground spies like James. Once Sophie’s investigations lead her to uncover the truth behind the gene therapies and their impact on society, she has to choose where her loyalties lie.

The film also features captivating performances by Amanda Plummer, known for her roles in "Hannibal" and "Pulp Fiction," and the late Lina Roessler, who plays Sophie's colleague at LifeSolutions.

Reversion offers an intricately woven tale with an underlying political message about the dangers of placing too much trust in corporations and recklessly experimenting with science. Kathryn Morris, the director and co-writer, has created an immersive and atmospheric vision of a future that feels both plausible and terrifying. As the story unfolds, she invites viewers into a world where the line between what is morally just and what is ethically prudent is constantly blurred.

Visually, the movie is impressive, with sleek and polished sci-fi designs and atmospheric cinematography. The neon-rich palette gives the film a modern and dystopian feel, while the use of colors often serves to emphasize and draw attention to essential details in the story.

Reversion will no doubt appeal to fans of thought-provoking science fiction films that explore complex themes of morality and technological advancement. The performances by the lead actors are compelling, and the film boasts a unique premise that offers viewers a glimpse into a terrifying, yet believable, future. The twists and turns in the plot keep the audience guessing until the very end, while the stunning visuals and captivating score tie everything together to create an engrossing and unforgettable experience.

Reversion is a 2015 fantasy movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9 and a MetaScore of 40.
