A prideful mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Gordan Smith, has been pining for his neighbor, Stephanie. Stephanie, a single mother, has babysitter troubles and needs someone to watch her son. Gordan offers his assistance until the regular babysitter can show up. However, Gordon finds his hands full when the babysitter calls and says she won’t be able to make it. Gordon takes Stephanie’s son, James, on his mail route and they discover a dog hiding in the back of the truck. Unbeknownst to Gordon, the bull mastiff is a FBI-trained canine that has escaped from the government’s custody after becoming a target of an assassination. James is immediately taken with the dog and convinces Gordon to let him keep the pooch. They decide to name the dog Spot. Gordon takes an instant dislike to Spot but agrees to keep him. James is delighted. Meanwhile, both the FBI and the goons are in hot pursuit of Spot. While visiting a pet store, the goons catch up to the dog and his new charges but the dog outsmarts them. Spot, Gordon, and James manage to get away and head back to the apartment. The FBI learns that Spot is living with Gordon and they attempt to take him back. The dog escapes again and tracks down Gordan and James. The goons also return and attempts to kill the dog one more time. Instead the goons are captured and imprisoned by the FBI. When the FBI tries to take Spot back again the dog refuses to go with them. The FBI eventually allows the dog decide who he wants to live with. He chooses Gordan and James. Stephanie returns and shows her displeasure with Gordon for what happened while she was gone. However, James convinces his mom that Gordon is a good guy and they end up together
