Deck the Halls is a 2006 holiday comedy film that stars Matthew Broderick, Danny DeVito, and Kristin Chenoweth in lead roles. Directed by John Whitesell, the movie revolves around the story of two neighbors, Steve Finch (played by Matthew Broderick) and Buddy Hall (played by Danny DeVito), who compete with each other to have the most decorated house for Christmas.

The movie begins with Steve Finch, a successful businessman, and a family man, who cherishes the traditions of Christmas and takes pride in his perfectly arranged neighborhood where everybody participates equally in the yearly celebrations. On the other hand, Buddy Hall, a new family in the town, is unhappy with his house's location, which is not visible from the main road. To become the talk of the town, he comes up with an idea of covering his house with so many lights that it becomes visible from space.

Buddy's idea initially seems ridiculous to everyone, but soon, his house's lights start attracting people from all around the town. This makes Steve very angry, who takes his competitive nature up a notch and tries to outdo Buddy by decorating his house with even more lavish decorations. The clash between the two neighbors becomes the hot topic in the town, and people start taking sides.

The story takes a twist when Steve's wife, Kelly, and Buddy's wife, Tia, bond over their frustrations with their husbands' obsession with the competition. Meanwhile, Steve's teenage daughter, Madison, develops a crush on Buddy's son, Carter, but Steve is not happy with this development, especially because Carter does not take Christmas traditions as seriously as he does.

As the days pass, both Steve and Buddy's lives become consumed by their competition, and their families start feeling neglected. The situation escalates when, during a town parade, Steve and Buddy get into a fight, which leads to a humiliating public exposure of their competition. The two men finally realize the damage they have caused to their families and relationships and come to an understanding to end their rivalry.

Right before Christmas, the townspeople decide to have a Christmas lighting contest, where every household competes in a friendly and healthy manner, proving that the holiday spirit is more about bonding and celebrating together rather than a competition. During the contest, both Steve and Buddy's families come together and celebrate the true spirit of Christmas, which is about uniting families and spreading joy and love.

Deck the Halls is a fun-filled ride that captures the essence of Christmas and highlights the real meaning of the festival. The cast delivers memorable performances, with Danny DeVito's portrayal of Buddy being the standout. The movie's lighting and decoration are a visual delight that adds to the holiday spirit. Overall, the movie is a perfect family entertainer, with its message of love, togetherness, and bonding, making it a must-watch during Christmas time.

Deck the Halls is a 2006 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1 and a MetaScore of 28.
