Written and directed by Drew Ann Rosenberg, Sex and a Girl (also titled Alex in Wonder) takes place in the early part of the 1970’s, starring Angela Gots as Alex Markov. Alex is a 16-year-old girl, with big dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Alex is a special girl, with a gift for dance. And her dream of a career as a ballerina is within her reach. She is lucky, and has two supportive parents who support her and believe in her as well as a dance coach that knows she has the talent to make it. Her mother Clarice (Ellen Greene), and her father Dan (Robert Hayes) are the perfect parents and Alex’s life seems happy and right on track for her to achieve her dreams. However, Alex's life is thrown into complete turmoil with Clarice and Dan tell her that they’re getting divorced. In a time when divorce was not common, Alex cannot wrap her mind around what is happening to her parents, their marriage or her life. She struggles with how to feel, how to carry on and who is at fault for her life falling apart. She can’t decide whether it is her mother’s fault, her father’s or even is she is the one who is to blame for the demise of their marriage and her family. Alex turns to her best friends Camelia (Alison Lohman), Jan (Lisa Brenner) and Alissa (Soleil Moon Frye), but they are as shocked and confused as Alex is. Turning to her boyfriend Patrick (Danny Masterson) doesn’t help matters, as he seems completely preoccupied with partying. In the midst of the fallout from her parent’s divorce, Alex turns to an unlikely and surprising man from her mother’s past. In this film, you’ll find a touching lesson of learning to overcome your circumstance and follow your dreams.
