"Sous le sable," translated into English as "Under the Sand," is a film from the year 2000. Marie has been married for 25 years and teaches an English class at a Parisian institution of higher education. While vacationing in the summer, her husband Jean vanishes while she relaxes and soaks up the sun's rays. With no body, several possibilities brew and bubble about in her head, from being abandoned, Jean committing suicide, or even just drowning in the sea. The lack of a body causes her to deny his absence, acting as if she is still married instead of widowed.
