Superman: Doomsday

Superman: Doomsday is an animated film detailing the near death and return of famed superhero, Superman, voiced by Adam Baldwin, at the hands of Doomsday, a mysterious creature discovered within a spaceship beneath the Earth's surface. Doomsday, a being of immense strength, possesses a unique threat to Superman, as he is pushed to his upper limits to subdue the creature and to deal with the consequences as they unfold.

We begin to see the importance of a stalwart hero, such as Superman, as he is replaced by a clone developed by Lex Luthor, voice of James Marsters, in an attempt to gain ultimate control over the city of Metropolis. The clone's actions become erratic and violent, prompting a triumphant return from the Man of Steel.

The story deals with loss, of both friends and of idols, the changing of ideals with a new era and the importance of sticking to one's beliefs firmly even in the face of criticism and scorn. From Superman to the very citizens of Metropolis, each character comes face to face not just with their own mortality, but the mortality of their convictions when all seems lost.
