Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford) has it all going for him. He is the swim team’s golden boy, has college recruiters all over him and is dating Amy (Shiri Appleby), the prettiest girl in school. He is living the life every teenage boy dreams of having. But Ben has a new admirer, in the form of Madison (played by Erika Christensen), the hot new girl at school. Madison takes a huge interest in Ben, and when he tells her he is in a committed relationship she claims to be ok with it but wants to be friends. In one of their friendly exchanges, Madison tells Ben that she does not know how to swim and while they’re at the pool together he talks her into getting in the water. One thing leads to another, and the raging teen hormones take over. They both agree to keep it a secret. What Ben sees a mistake becomes much more than that when he spurns Madison’s continued advances. As Ben continues to thwart her attempts to talk to him, she begins trying to contact him online as “swimfan85”. Ben holds steady to her that he does not want anything to do with her, so Madison begins to weave herself into every other aspect of Ben’s life. She begins dating his best friend, and twining herself around Ben’s circle of friends, all the while begging Ben to pay attention to her. Soon enough, Madison becomes unhinged. She has decided that Ben will be with her, regardless of who or what tries to stop her. She plots to destroy Ben’s life, attacking not only his relationship with Amy but also his after-school job and his swim career. Soon enough, Ben is not the only one feeling the dire consequences of his one-time indiscretion. Now that she is unhinged, her obsession becomes deadly. It may be too late, but when an incident in Madison’s past comes to light, Ben thinks he sees a way out.
