In the 1995 family adventure-drama, Far From Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog, sixteen year-old Angus convinces his parents to let him keep a stray Labrador Retriever he names Yellow. Several days later the pair join Angus's dad, John on a boating trip along the coast of British Colombia. The boat drifts into a sudden squall, where gale force winds and turbulent seas capsize the boat. With his father still on the boat, Angus and Yellow are swept away in the life raft. Once on dry land, the pair find themselves stranded in a remote and heavily forested section of coastline. With only each other and the survival skills that his father taught him, Angus and Yellow battle freezing temperatures, torrential rains, starvation, and even a pack of vicious wolves in order to survive.

Having been found after his boat capsized, John is soon rescued. Once home, he and his wife Catherine join the Coastguard in a frantic search for Angus and Yellow.
