Taking Off is a 1971 comedy. It was the first American film directed by the well-known Czech director Mikos Foreman. The story centers around a group of parents. When their children run away from home the parents take the opportunity to rediscover their own youth. Foreman wrote the screenplay in collaboration with John Guare. One of the quirky things about the film is that it features a number of young female singers such as Carly Simon. A Tina Turner concert serves as the setting for part of the movie. The movie takes a satirical look at middle class conservative parents who have forgotten their young rebellious days.
