In a somewhat more faithful adaptation (though set in modern England) than the 1946 Bogart version, The Big Sleep can't help but please fans of the Raymond Chandler novel of the same name and of the hard boiled detective genre. Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum) is sent on the case of a wealthy General Sternwood (James Stewart), he must find out who is blackmailing him through the wild behavior of his daughter Camilla (Candy Clark). However there is much more to the case than it seems as Marlowe is thrown into the thick of it with the death of the blackmailer.
