The Cowboy and the Lady is a 1938 Western. The film is more of a romantic comedy rather than a typical Western. Gary Cooper and Merle Oberon star in the movie. The story is about a beautiful young socialite who becomes involved with a down-to-earth cowboy. Oberon plays Mary Smith and Cooper plays Stretch Willoughby. Mary’s father is a presidential candidate. She wants to get away from all the hullabaloo and just live an ordinary life. She goes incognito working as a maid at a hotel in Palm Beach. She agrees to join two female friends on a blind date with rodeo cowboys. She meets and falls in love with Stretch. She makes up a false story about her past when she learns that Stretch does not like high society people. This is a fun romantic comedy and Cooper and Oberon are great in their roles.
