The movie The Mummy is an adventure-horror film released in 1932. It tells the story of an ancient Egyptian priest named Imhotep who is mistakenly revived and seeks to reunite with his lost love. The film stars John Carruthers as the dashing archaeologist Frank Whemple and Eleanor Hunt as his love interest, Helen Grosvenor. The movie begins in 1921 when Frank and his colleague, Professor Pearson, discover the mummy of Imhotep in an ancient tomb in Egypt. They also find a scroll that contains a curse warning that whoever reads it will bring the mummy back to life. Despite the warning, Pearson reads the scroll out loud and unknowingly revives Imhotep. The mummy disappears from the tomb, and the two archaeologists return to their expedition headquarters to try and make sense of what they have just witnessed.

Meanwhile, a young woman named Helen arrives in Egypt with her father, Sir Joseph Whemple, who is also an archaeologist. Frank is immediately drawn to Helen, and the two begin a flirtatious romance. However, strange occurrences begin to happen around the camp as Imhotep, now alive and well, seeks out his lost love, who he believes has been reincarnated as Helen.

As Imhotep begins to gain power and control, the group of archaeologists realizes the full extent of their mistake in reviving the ancient priest. They must find a way to destroy him before it is too late.

The film has a suspenseful and eerie feel throughout, utilizing techniques such as sound effects and dark lighting to build tension. The acting is solid, especially in the scenes where the characters are terrified of what is happening around them.

One of the standout features of The Mummy is the makeup and special effects used to create Imhotep's mummified appearance. It is done in a way that makes him look both otherworldly and terrifying. The scene where Imhotep comes to life still holds up today as a masterful example of practical effects work.

However, the film is not without its flaws. The pacing can be slow at times, and some of the dialogue comes across as wooden and overly dramatic. Additionally, the romantic subplot between Frank and Helen can come across as clichéd and predictable.

Despite its flaws, The Mummy is a classic horror film that has stood the test of time. It is a thrilling and suspenseful adventure that has influenced many horror movies that have come after it. It is a must-see for any horror fan, and a great example of the type of movie-making that was popular in the 1930s.

The Mummy is a 1998 documentary with a runtime of 46 minutes.
