The Quiet Man is a romantic comedy film that was first released in 1952 and directed by John Ford, known primarily for many important westerns, namely, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The Quiet Man stars John Wayne, Maureen O Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond as well as Victor McLaglen. The film was written by Frank S. Nugent and was a recipient of numerous awards at the 1952 Venice Film Festival where The Quiet Man won Best Director, as well as Best Cinematography. The plot of the film revolves around Sean Thorton (John Wayne) a man who journeys to Ireland to return to his family farm at Inisfree. There at the farm he encounters his true love, Mary Kate Danaher (O Hara). However she is the sister of a foul mouthed and vicious brawler named Red Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen). A long and bitter rivalry ensues between Red and Thorton when the latter outbids the former for the family farm.
