True Grit is an American Western movie from 1969 which was directed by Henry Hathaway. It tells a story of a teenage girl who hires a US Marshall to find and bring to justice the man who murdered her father. The main protagonist of the movie is a fourteen-year-old girl named Mattie Ross (Kim Darby). When her father is killed by a man named Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey), she seeks the help of the most feared Marshall in the area, Reuben 'Rooster' Cogburn (John Wayne). Mattie is informed that Cogburn is a very tough and hard-drinking man, but she is determined to track down Chaney, and hence she offers Cogburn $100 for his services to find Chaney.

Cogburn, on the other hand, has his own reasons to find Chaney. He just not wants to earn the bounty that's placed on Chaney's head, but he also would like a chance to avenge an old enemy of his who was also killed by Chaney. Cogburn also sees the opportunity to earn some prize money by joining a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf (Glen Campbell) who is also after Chaney for another crime.

Thus begins the journey of Cogburn, Mattie, and La Boeuf, and the various adventures they encounter on the way. There are encounters with hostile outlaws, harsh weather conditions, and survival in the wilderness. Together they manage to track down Chaney to a hidden valley, where a violent confrontation awaits them.
