Watch The Wicker Man
The 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage and Ellen Burstyn recreates much of the suspense and drama from the original film of the same name which debuted in 1973. The unusual premise for the movie includes a village largely run by the female population. The ladies prove to be almost completely independent and have little need for help from outsiders. They are able to forage for food, construct shelter, and manage somewhat primitive agricultural techniques. There is even an emphasis on education and proper socialization skills among the general community. From a young age, the children are taught about respect, hierarchy, and responsibility to the elders. Certain coming of age rituals are vaguely depicted during the movie that leave much room for audience interpretation. However, there is simply no preparation for another ritual that the ladies regularly perform to honor their cultural beliefs.
