'Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead' is a film about a botched mission. It is a dark, violent crime drama featuring slick, hipster grifters, hit men, con men, and gangsters. The hero of this story is Jimmy "The Saint" Tosnia, a former gangster with a heart of gold, and a pile of debt owed to the wrong people. 'Jimmy' is ably played by Andy García who has had his share of mobsters rolls. With an ensemble cast including Steve Buscemi, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lloyd, and Gabrielle Anwar, the storyline moves quickly and gruesomely toward a not-so unexpected climax. Set in Denver, the plot opens with Jimmy "The Saint" struggling financially. Jimmy video tapes the dying wishes of people to share with family members as a business. Business is not so good, and after borrowing from the mob, an old acquaintance, known as 'The Man with the Plan' buys up Jimmy's street IOU's in order to compel him to do one more job for him -- scaring off the boyfriend of his son's ex-girlfriend. Having no choice, Jimmy rounds up his old gang to do one last job, and from the start everything goes horribly wrong. Instead of scaring the boyfriend, he ends up dead, and somehow, the ex-girlfriend also dies. The Man with the Plan is enraged, and the remainder of the picture becomes a retribution story. Jimmy is allowed to live, but not his crew, and The Man hires a professional assassin (Steve Buscemi) to hunt down each of them to dispatch them. In the process, Buscemi's character is also killed. To obtain closure, The Man hires a trio of assassins to finish off the remaining fugitives, but Jimmy intervenes killing The Man's son, and making himself the next and last target. The film's conclusion has Jimmy finding peace with his fate while shooting his own final video farewell to this world.
