In Trouble with the Curve, a long time baseball scout for the Atlanta Braves is asked to do one more assignment for the organization. However due to her father losing vision in one of his eyes, she is asked to accompany him on his scouting trip at the request of a colleague of his. When in North Carolina, the scout spends time with his daughter while evaluating the prospect. Over time she begins to take over most of the scouting duties and evaluates the player herself. At the same time she also meets another scout for the Boston Red Sox. After finding out that her current significant other decides not to pursue a romantic relationship any further unless she agrees to commit and go steady, she gets let down. The person she was competing against for the partner position also gains the upper hand in the evaluation. As a result she begins to spend time with and form a bond with the Red Sox scout. During this time the scout and his daughter discuss the past and she tells him that she felt neglected by her father for many years. She leaves a restaurant they were eating at after an argument. Later on in the film, the scout and his daughter continue the evaluation of the prospect but the scout is not sure if he is worthy of drafting due to his questionable ability to hit breaking balls. The Red Sox scout find this out and therefore makes a strong push for the Red Sox to draft the prospect. However the Braves draft the prospect anyway and the Red Sox scout leaves the area angered about what just happened despite the daughter’s pleas. After the player evaluation and the draft, the scout tells his daughter that he became distant from her because he believed that he failed her after she was about to be sexually assaulted by a guy in a barn. He beat the guy up and prevented her from getting molested but it still made him very uneasy. In the end the scout goes back to Atlanta and the daughter discovers a pitcher. She recommends him to the Braves for a tryout and eventually becomes an agent for athletes. The daughter also begins a romantic relationship with the Red Sox scout as well.
