Helen Tasker (Jamie Lee Curtis), an office worker, is bored with her life and marriage to Harry, a computer salesman (Arnold Swartzenegger) who is constantly going on a lot of corporate trips for his company Tektel Systems. Helen begins taking phone calls at work from a man named Simon, who drives a sporty car and tells her exciting stories about his life, full of intrigue. Harry’s teenaged daughter Dana (Eliza Dushku) takes Harry for granted as well.

Meanwhile, Harry has been on covert mission for the U.S. government to combat terrorism. Tektel is merely a cover for his counter-terrorism task force. Harry works with Faisal (Grant Heslov) and “Gib” (Tom Arnold) on the latest mission to learn as much as they can the “Crimson Jihad.” Being consumed with this, causes Harry to miss his own birthday party and disappoint his family. After discovering his wife is out to lunch with “Simon” the next day, he and his team plan a little surprise for Helen, but things go awry after Harry discovers his cover has been utterly convincing and his wife is bored to tears. Life then turns into a dangerous adventure for Helen when the couple is kidnapped.
