United 93

"September 11, 2001. Four planes were hijacked. Three of them reached their target. This is the story of the fourth."

The movie is directed by Paul Greengrass. He also co-produced, and wrote the film based on the tragic events of September 11. The film starts out early on the morning of 9/11 with four hijackers in their hotel room praying and preparing for what is to come. They then head to the Newark International Airport. The first airplane veers off course heading towards New York. At first, the air traffic controllers don't realize the magnitude of the situation. There are tapes recording Mohamed Atta saying that they have some planes and everything will be ok. He initially tells them they are returning to the airport, but unfortunately that was not the case. By then, CNN is filming the World Trade Center as the second plane crashes into the South Tower.

Flight 93 reaches cruising altitude about the same time that Flight 175 crashes. The pilots are made aware of the situation as the four men begin their attack. With a fake bomb to scare the passengers, the hijackers herd them to the back of the plane. Three of the hijackers commandeer the cockpit, killing the pilots. The Cleveland Air Traffic Control hears what Ziad Jarrah tells the passengers through the transponder. Once Ziad realizes that he is on the radio, he turns the transponder off.

As Flight 93 turns toward Washington D.C. a decision to shut down all the airspace is made, and every flight is grounded. The Pentagon is hit by Flight 77 by this time. The passengers of Flight 93 are making phone calls via on-board the Airfone system. They realize what is happening after they learn about the World Trade Center.

With a cart for protection, the passengers storm the hijackers killing them. They breach the cockpit and the plane lurches into a nose dive. The yoke of the plane is reached for by several hands, and the screen goes black. The movie is rated R with a running time of one hour and fifty-one minutes.
