Untamed Heart was relaeased in 1993 and it is a romance movie with two very unlikely subjects for romance. Caroline, played by Marissa Tomei, is a waitress at a small diner. Caroline lives at home with her parents and her brother. She is a hopeless romantic but her attempts at dating have all been very unsatisfying so far. Adam, played by Christian Slater, is a busboy at the same restaraunt where Caroline is a waitress. Adam is extremely shy and reclusive. Everyone at the diner thinks that he is weird and doesn't pay him much attention. Adam is secretly in love with Caroline but she doesn't know it.

One night Caroline ends up having to walk home from work late at night because her younger brother fell asleep and forgot to pick her up. On the way home two men who had been harassing her earlier in the evening at the diner confront her in the park she is taking a shortcut through. They attempt to rape her but Adam has been secretly following her and attacks the men to save her. Caroline runs away to safety while he is attacking them. After the attack Caroline becomes depressed and reclusive. She confronts Adam about saving her and thanks him.

Adam is very hard to communicate with at first. With a little time they become very good friends and soon lovers. Caroline finds out that Adam was raised in an orphanage and that he has a bad heart. He actually still believes he has a baboon heart because of a story the nuns told him as a child. Together they help eachother to heal. Adam learns to come out of his shell, his personality blossoming. Caroline heals from her attack in the park emotionally. They are a very unlikely fit but they are truly happy together. After a happy day where Adam takes Caroline to her first hockey game Adam passes away in the car from his bad heart finally failing.
