Katie and her husband decide to flee Ireland when the Potato Famine strikes. They think a better life awaits them in Africa, the place they decide to travel to. Once settled there, Katie meets a man who she falls in love with. A physical relationship is possible, but if that happens, Katie betrays her husband in a way that could threaten to destroy what they have together. Katie and her husband are already fighting a hard battle because life in Africa is much more difficult than they imagined it would be.
