Apollo Live is a show that continues in the tradition of the original Showtime at The Apollo, which showcased talent for over 75 years. Apollo live revisits the previous format, introducing amateur talent to a new generation of Apollo viewers. In addition to the previous format, Apollo Live has also added a slightly different twist to the new show. It now has an informal panel of judges. These three judges hear the performances, and give their critique, and professional tips about the amateur talent. Although, the audience has the final say as to the Apollo winner. One of the judges on the show is the immensely talented Gladys Knight. Her career spans over 50 years. She was part of the hit making Gladys Knight and the Pips, which put out hits such as Midnight Train to Georgia and Love Overboard. This legendary singer has performed at the Apollo early in her career, and gives her invaluable critiques to the amateur talent. Another judge on the show is Doug E. Fresh. Doug E. Fresh is a hip hop legend who has performed on the current show for the new audience on the show. He also gives his helpful critiques on the performances. The third judge on the show is Mr. Micheal Bivens of the musical group New Edition. Micheal Bivens has been performing for 30 years and is also one third of the group Bell Biv Divoe. This group also performed at the Apollo earlier in his career, and had the opportunity to perform again for a new generation of Apollo audience. The show is hosted by Tony Rock, who is not only a successful comedian, but also a talented actor as well. The Apollo audience, which is one of the toughest audiences to perform for is entertained by Tony's comedic humor. This comedic humor keeps the crowd laughing and ready for more.
