In season 2 episode 2 of Bargain Block, titled French Country and Chez Shea, we follow hosts Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas as they take on two neighboring homes in Detroit's Bagley neighborhood. The first home, French Country, is a charming 1920s Tudor-style home with unique architectural features such as a steeply pitched roof, asymmetrical facade, and decorative Half-timbering. The second home, Chez Shea, is a large brick colonial with a lot of potential but with a less than desirable exterior.
The hosts start with the French Country home, which needs a lot of work, both on the exterior and interior. Keith and Evan decide to maintain the original charm of the home while modernizing it with a bright and airy feel. They remove some of the walls on the main floor to create an open concept design, which allows more natural light flow throughout the space. They also add a beautifully curved staircase that leads up to the second floor, creating a grand entrance at the heart of the home. They also update the kitchen with new appliances and a large breakfast bar, which opens up to the living area, creating a perfect gathering place for family and friends.
Upstairs, the hosts transform the previous four-bedroom layout into a three-bedroom design. They create a luxurious master suite with a spacious walk-in closet and a stunning en suite bathroom. One of the additional bedrooms is turned into a home office, complete with a stunning built-in bookshelf.
The exterior of the French Country home receives just as much of an update as the interior. The hosts enhance the dramatic features of the exterior with new windows, sleek black gutters, and a fresh coat of paint. They replace the old concrete steps with new brick steps that match the home's charm and style. They also add a beautiful garden to the front yard, making the home the envy of the block.
On to the second home, Chez Shea, Keith and Evan see a lot of potential in the large colonial-style home. The exterior, however, is not up to par with the interior, so they decide to give the home a grand entrance by adding a portico and updating the roof. Inside, they create an open-concept living space by removing walls that previously separated the living room, dining room, and kitchen. They also hang large statement chandeliers and update the hardwood floors throughout the home.
The kitchen in Chez Shea receives a complete overhaul with new cabinets, appliances, and countertops. A large center island is added to the design, with ample seating for family and friends. A separate breakfast nook is created that brings in plenty of natural light through its large windows.
Upstairs, the hosts turn an unused sitting room into a much-needed laundry room. They also add a master suite with a spacious en suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. The other three bedrooms are situated down a separate hall and share a luxurious bathroom.
The exterior of Chez Shea received a dramatic update with a fresh coat of paint in a muted gray color, which contrasts beautifully with the bright white trim. A new portico and columned entrance make the home stand out on the block. The hosts also add a new driveway with a large garage door, which hides away any unsightly clutter.
In conclusion, season 2 episode 2 of Bargain Block, titled French Country and Chez Shea, sees Keith and Evan take on two homes with a lot of potential and transform them into stunning works of art. Both homes receive a complete overhaul, with new floor plans, modern amenities, and updated architecture. The results are stunning homes that are sure to turn heads and impress potential buyers.
