Como Dice el Dicho is a popular Mexican television show that explores the various sayings and proverbs that have been passed down through generations of Mexican culture. Each episode centers around a specific proverb, and the characters in the show must navigate a situation where that saying applies. In season 1 episode 2, titled "La Mentira Dura," the proverb at the center of the story is "una mentira tiene las patas cortas," or "a lie has short legs."
The episode opens with a young woman named Lila arriving in a small Mexican town to start a new job. She's nervous and excited, but as she's walking to her new workplace, she bumps into a man named Daniel who is also heading there for his own job. They strike up a conversation and quickly hit it off, with Lila feeling grateful for the friendly welcome to the town.
As Lila settles into her new job, she begins to notice that her boss, a woman named Camila, is not particularly well-liked by the other employees. They all seem to whisper and gossip about her when she's not around, and Lila starts to wonder what's going on.
One day, she asks one of her coworkers why everyone seems to dislike their boss so much. The coworker, a woman named Elvira, confides in Lila that Camila has a reputation for being cruel and manipulative. She tells Lila about the time Camila fired a pregnant woman for taking too many bathroom breaks, and how Camila's management style is all about fear and intimidation.
Lila is horrified by what she hears, and starts to view Camila in a new light. She's hesitant to confront her boss, though, and decides to keep her head down and focus on doing her job well.
Meanwhile, Lila has continued to hang out with Daniel, and they've developed a close friendship. One day, when they're sitting at a cafe together, Daniel asks Lila if she knows anything about Camila. He tells her that there are rumors going around that Camila is embezzling from the company, and that some of the employees are planning to report her to the authorities.
Lila is torn. On the one hand, she knows that what Camila is doing is wrong and that it's important to stand up for what's right. On the other hand, she's afraid that if she gets involved, she could lose her job or even be targeted by Camila.
As Lila struggles with what to do, she starts to become more and more distant from Daniel. He can sense that something's bothering her, but she won't open up about it. Eventually, he confronts her and demands to know what's going on.
Lila finally tells Daniel what she's learned about Camila, and explains why she's hesitant to do anything about it. Daniel reassures her that it's important to speak up, even in the face of fear, and offers to help her report Camila to the authorities.
Together, Lila and Daniel approach the other employees and convince them to come forward with their evidence. Camila is soon arrested and charged with embezzlement, and Lila is hailed as a hero for standing up for what's right.
The episode ends with Lila and Daniel having a heart-to-heart about the importance of honesty and integrity, and how sometimes doing the right thing means taking a risk. They bid each other goodbye, with Lila feeling more confident and empowered than ever before.
