Cowboy Builders (UK) Season 5 Episode 4 Bradford
- July 28, 2011
Cowboy Builders (UK) season 5 episode 4 titled "Bradford" follows presenters Dom Littlewood and Melinda Messenger as they visit a family in Bradford, West Yorkshire whose home is in desperate need of renovation.
The homeowners, Michael and Karen, reached out to the Cowboy Builders after being left with an incomplete building job. Their two-story home was supposed to have a two-story extension added on, but the builders they hired did an incomplete job before disappearing without any communication. The couple was left with a half-finished extension with no roof, exposed insulation and structural damage.
The couple was feeling the brunt of this botched work by being forced to move into the living room with their children and living without a functioning kitchen. The couple also revealed that they hired the original builders because they were offering the cheapest quote. However, as Littlewood and Messenger found out later, the builders did not have the necessary insurance, license, or qualifications to carry out the job.
Littlewood teamed up with his usual crew of builders including Dan Lobb, who is a former professional footballer. The team first assessed the damage and found that the extension was not up to building regulations. The faulty wiring and lack of insulation made the home unsafe, and the crew had to redo everything from scratch, even providing a new roof.
The Cowboy Builders team also needed to focus on making the home more livable. The partially constructed extension meant that the couple's kitchen was left in shambles, with no plumbing or reliable domestic installations available. The crew had to knock down walls and install a modern yet functional kitchen with a much-needed central island.
During the renovation process, the builders found more issues, making the extension project more extensive than the couple ever imagined. Apart from structural defects and leaks, wood rot and damp had also invaded the base of the building, forcing the team to conduct extensive repairs to prevent further damage.
At the end of the show, Littlewood and Messenger revealed the finished product to the couple. They were thrilled to be able to access a spacious living area and a bright, fully functional kitchen that they'd never had before. The couple's daughters were delighted to have their rooms back and were even more impressed when they saw the children's hideaway they built underneath the stairs.
Littlewood and Messenger's team of Cowboy Builders had transformed the couple's half-finished nightmare home into a bright and welcoming space that they could call their own. The couple was thrilled to have their dream home restored to them. Despite the numerous challenges they faced, the Cowboy Builders did not disappoint, as they provided a much-needed transformation to a home left in disarray.
