Curious and Unusual Deaths is a documentary series that explores some of the strangest deaths in history. Each episode delves into the unusual circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of individuals, leaving viewers and investigators perplexed.

In season 1 episode 2 of Curious and Unusual Deaths, entitled At Home, the focus is on various bizarre cases of people who have died in their own homes. The episode showcases personal tragedies that have shaken families and left many wondering how such things could have happened.

The episode starts by profiling multiple scenarios in which seemingly innocent activities in the home have led to fatal outcomes. From accidents in the kitchen to strange accidents with electricity, viewers will quickly become horrified at the hidden dangers that are found in their own homes.

One segment details a 19th-century physician, Dr. George Parkman, whose disappearance led to a high-profile murder investigation that gripped the nation. The story began when Dr. Parkman went missing outside of his home in Boston. His wife assumed he had simply gone to work, but when he did not return for several days, she alerted the authorities.

The police investigation soon led to the Harvard Medical School, where Dr. Parkman reportedly had an argument with one of the school's professors, Dr. John Webster. The investigators discovered that Dr. Webster had been in severe debt and had convinced Dr. Parkman to loan him a large sum of money. As the investigation unfolded, police found human remains in the furnace of Dr. Webster's home.

Another segment of the episode tells the story of a young child who was playing a game of hide-and-seek with his siblings in their family home. The boy found a chest in a dark corner of the attic and climbed inside to hide, but he became stuck. Unable to escape, he tragically suffocated inside the chest. The incident highlights the dangers of old, neglected furniture, which can be particularly harmful to children.

In another segment, viewers learn about the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that can be produced by heating materials such as coal, wood and oil. Exposure to carbon monoxide can cause serious illness or death, but it can be hard to detect because there is no warning sign. The episode goes through several cases in which the deceased were exposed to the gas over long periods of time.

The episode wraps up by focusing on the dangers of old wiring in homes. A segment details the sad case of an elderly woman sleeping in her bed when a lamp next to her bed short-circuits. She suffers from burns across more than 50% of her body and tragically succumbs to her injuries. This occurrence is followed by several other cases at homes where old electric wirings had dire consequences for homeowners.
