In DARLING in the FRANXX season 1 episode 5, titled "Your Thorn, My Badge," the squad members are tasked with different duties. Hiro and Zorome are assigned to go on a reconnaissance mission to gather information on a klaxosaur nest, while Ichigo, Goro, and Miku stay behind to undergo partner training sessions.
As Hiro and Zorome begin their mission, they encounter a young girl named Nana, who is a former parasite and currently works for the APE (Apathetic Peace Enforcement) organization. Nana opens up about her past experiences and how she was abandoned by her partner during a klaxosaur attack, leading to her being removed from combat duties.
Meanwhile, the partner training sessions prove to be difficult for Ichigo and Goro, as they struggle to synchronize perfectly with each other. Miku, on the other hand, seems to be excelling in her training and easily syncs with her partner, Zorome.
As Hiro and Zorome continue their mission, they come across the klaxosaur nest and begin to gather data. However, their mission takes a dangerous turn when they are suddenly ambushed by a group of klaxosaurs. The duo tries their best to fend off the klaxosaurs but is eventually overpowered.
Back at the base, Ichigo and Goro finally manage to synchronize and complete their training session. They then try to contact Hiro and Zorome but are unable to reach them. Concerned for their safety, Ichigo decides to take matters into her own hands and leads a rescue mission with Goro and Miku.
As the episode comes to a close, the squad members' teamwork is put to the test as they confront the klaxosaurs head-on. Will they be able to rescue Hiro and Zorome and complete their mission?
"Your Thorn, My Badge" serves as an action-packed episode that highlights the importance of teamwork and trust. It also explores the idea of past trauma and the impact it can have on individuals, as seen through Nana's character development.
