Ep 4. Reunion

In Deep State season 1 episode 4, titled "Reunion," we see a number of storylines come to a head as the main characters begin to grapple with the consequences of their actions.

The episode begins with Max (played by Mark Strong) still in police custody after being arrested in the previous episode. He's being interrogated by an MI6 agent named Harry Clarke (played by Alistair Petrie) who wants information about who Max has been meeting with. Max refuses to give up anything, but the tension between the two men is palpable.

Meanwhile, Leyla (played by Karima McAdams) is back in Iran, where she's been tasked with securing a meeting with a key player in the country's nuclear program. She's accompanied by her ex-fiance, a man named Mahmut, who is now working with the authorities in Iran. As they try to gain the trust of the Iranian scientist, Leyla is forced to confront her feelings for Mahmut and the choices she's made in her life.

At the same time, we see Aicha (played by Lyne Renée), the widow of a terrorist who Max killed in the first episode, seeking revenge against the former spy. She's targeted Max's daughter, Anna (played by Anastasia Griffith), and has manipulated her into meeting with her under false pretenses. Anna is devastated to learn the truth about her father's past, and the scene is a powerful one as the two women confront each other.

Other storylines in the episode include Nathan (played by Noah Taylor) trying to come to terms with the loss of his wife and daughter, and George (played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) dealing with the aftermath of a botched operation.

Overall, "Reunion" is a tense and emotional episode that sets up a lot of the ongoing conflicts and stakes for the rest of the season. With strong performances from the cast and smart writing throughout, it's a standout installment in an already excellent series.
