Delocated, a comedy show by Jon Glaser, is a mockumentary that follows a man who goes into the witness protection program, but instead of the traditional protective services, he wears a ski mask and glides into the world of reality TV. It's an absurd premise, but it's a smart and original show that has garnered a dedicated fan base.

The pilot episode mostly sets up the premise of the show. We meet "Jon," the man who's gone into the witness protection program, now living in New York. He's married with a son and a daughter, though he's estranged from his wife and they only communicate through an interpreter. His job is to star in a reality show called "The Witness Protection Program," where he and his fake family live their lives in front of the cameras, while he wears his ski mask at all times.

In the opening scene, we see Jon talking to the camera. He's excited about the show, though he's clearly nervous about being on TV. He's unsure about how much he should reveal about his past or if he should refer to his fake wife as his real wife. This uncertainty and insecurity will become a recurring theme throughout the series.

At the start of the episode, Jon is fired from his job at a hotel by a manager who insults him. Humiliated, Jon vents his frustrations to his "wife," who tells him that it's all worth it for their new life. This interaction sets up the idea that, despite the show's focus on humor, Jon's situation is a serious one.

After that, we see Jon training for his new life. He practices not taking off his mask, which proves difficult when he has to drink water or eat, and he also learns self-defense. The training sequence is equal parts funny and sad, as we see Jon getting beat up by his martial arts instructor.

Later on, Jon is at his children's school, where we're given the first hints that things might not be what they seem. The principal, Mrs. Shapiro, questions Jon about his children's schooling and seems to know that the family won't be staying in New York for long. Jon, flustered, doesn't give away any information.

Soon after, Jon's worst fear is realized when the actor playing "David," his fake son, pulls his ski mask off during a meal. This creates a comedic moment, but it's also an ominous one. Jon's cover could be blown at any moment, and it's unclear how he would deal with that situation.

Towards the end of the episode, we see Jon sign the contract for the reality show, and he's excited to start his new life. As the episode ends, Jon takes a moment to reminisce about his past life, his friends, his wife, and the things he's lost. It's a melancholy moment that reminds us that, despite the humor, there's a serious human story at the heart of Delocated.

In this pilot episode, Jon Glaser does a great job of establishing the show's premise while also laying the groundwork for later episodes. We get a clear sense of who Jon is, what his situation is, and what the show will be about. The episode is funny, but it's also poignant, and it sets up a world that's equal parts absurd and menacing.

Delocated is a smart and funny show that will appeal to anyone who loves dark comedies and mockumentaries. If you're looking for something that's both silly and serious, this show is definitely worth checking out.
