In season 5 episode 20, titled "The Tooth Is Out There", Dharma and Greg take a trip to the dentist. Dharma has a toothache and Greg is afraid of the dentist. The episode starts with Dharma trying to convince Greg to go to the dentist with her. She tells him about her favorite dentist, Dr. Guthrie, who is a holistic dentist. She also tells him that the dentist office is like a spa where they offer massages, herbal teas, and aromatherapy. Greg is not convinced and resists going to the dentist.

Meanwhile, Abby, Dharma's mother, is visiting and is helping Larry, Greg's father, with his campaign for city council. They are canvassing the neighborhood, trying to win votes. Abby is an unconventional campaigner, and her unusual tactics are not very effective.

Back at the dentist office, Dharma is having her tooth checked by Dr. Guthrie. She is very excited and enjoying the experience. She tells the doctor about her life and how much she enjoys being married to Greg. Dr. Guthrie listens and offers some advice. He tells her that she needs to be careful not to lose herself in the relationship and that it's important to keep her individuality.

While Dharma is in the dentist chair, Greg is waiting in the lobby. He is very nervous and reluctant to go in. He watches a video about the benefits of holistic dentistry and becomes interested in the treatments. He then decides to give it a try and goes in to see the dentist.

Meanwhile, Abby and Larry are still canvassing the neighborhood. They are not having much success until they come across a man who seems to be very unhappy with the current city council. Abby tells him that Larry will make a great councilman and that he has her vote. The man is very impressed and invites them in for coffee. They sit down and start talking to him about their campaigns. Abby tells him that she is a free spirit and that she believes in living life to the fullest. The man tells her that he admires her spirit and that he will definitely vote for Larry.

Back at the dentist's office, Greg is having his tooth checked. He is very nervous, but the doctor is reassuring and calm. The doctor tells him that he needs to relax and that he will take care of him. Greg finally relaxes and starts to enjoy the experience. The dentist tells him that he needs a crown and that he has to come back the next day to have it done.

Meanwhile, Abby and Larry are leaving the man's house with a list of potential voters. They are very excited and happy with their success. They decide to go out for ice cream to celebrate.

Back at the dentist's office, Dharma and Greg are leaving. Dharma is still feeling the effects of the aromatherapy and tells Greg that she feels like she is floating. Greg is also feeling good and tells her that he is not afraid of the dentist anymore.
