Ep 5. Plum Tuckered

Plum Tuckered is the fifth episode of the first season of the satirical dark comedy-drama show, Dietland. It follows Plum Kettle, a ghostwriter for a popular women's magazine, as she struggles with body image issues, society's expectations, and a variety of other personal problems.

At the beginning of the episode, Plum is recovering from a gunshot wound inflicted by a member of Jennifer, a feminist terrorist organization responsible for punishing men who have committed crimes against women with extreme violence. She decides to take a break from the magazine and go on a shopping spree to lift her spirits, despite her financial struggles. While trying on clothes, she meets her old boss Kitty Montgomery, who reveals that she knows about Plum's plan to have weight loss surgery and offers her a job at a new, revolutionary women's magazine called Daisy Chain. Plum is thrilled at the opportunity, but starts to have doubts when she learns Daisy Chain's true intentions.

Meanwhile, Jennifer is planning their next attack, targeting a man who has been accused of sexually assaulting several women. Plum is conflicted about her feelings towards Jennifer's methods, and seeks solace in her support group for "waist-watchers" led by Verena Baptist. At their meeting, the other members express concern about Plum's recent behavior, particularly her decision to take the job at Daisy Chain, a magazine known for promoting dangerous and unrealistic beauty standards. In an effort to impress her new boss, Plum is introduced to a doctor who specializes in bariatric surgery, and is convinced that this is the solution to all her problems.

As the episode progresses, we see Plum struggling with her decision to get weight loss surgery and her involvement with both Jennifer and Daisy Chain. She is torn between wanting to fit into society's beauty standards and embracing her body as it is, and is unsure of her place in the feminist movement. Eventually, she discovers a dark secret about Daisy Chain and realizes that it is not the magazine she thought it was. With the help of Verena, she decides to take control of her own life and fight against the oppressive beauty industry.

The episode ends with a powerful scene of Plum taking down a poster of a thin model and replacing it with a message of self-love and body positivity. It is a message of hope for all women struggling with body image issues, and a call to action for society to celebrate all body types. Plum has found her voice and is ready to make a difference, but the road ahead is a difficult one, and she will need all the support she can get.
