Dr. Brain follows the story of a genius neuroscientist who creates a technology that allows people to access other people's memories. In episode one, titled Chapter 1, we meet our main character, Dr. Kim Jihun (played by Lee Sun-kyun). Dr. Kim is a brilliant scientist who has been working for years to develop his groundbreaking memory-reading technology. His goal is to help people who have lost their memories due to traumatic brain injuries, or for those suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
The episode begins with Dr. Kim demonstrating his technology to a group of investors. He shows them how the device works by using it on his own memories, which he begins projecting onto a screen for all to see. While the investors are impressed, one of them begins questioning the ethics of using such invasive technology on people's memories. Dr. Kim assures them that he has taken all necessary precautions and that the technology will be used strictly for medical purposes.
As the investors leave, Dr. Kim is approached by a woman named Yun Ji-soo (played by Park Yoo-na). Ji-soo appears to be a journalist who is interested in writing a story about Dr. Kim's technology. Dr. Kim is initially hesitant, but Ji-soo convinces him to let her do the story and even suggests that she could help him find potential patients for the medical trials.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to a father and his young daughter who are visiting Dr. Kim's clinic. The father, Lee Ji-won (played by Uhm Hyo-sup), has had memory problems ever since he was in a severe car accident. His daughter, Eun-ha (played by Jeon Yeo-bin), has been taking care of him but is frustrated by the fact that he seems to have no memory of her. Ji-won is skeptical of the memory-reading technology at first, but Dr. Kim manages to persuade him to participate in the trial.
The episode then takes us through the process of Ji-won using the memory-reading device. Dr. Kim warns him that it may be overwhelming and that he should be prepared. Ji-won agrees and puts on the device. We then see a montage of various memories from Ji-won's past, ranging from happy family moments to traumatic events from his car accident.
After the trial is done, Dr. Kim and Ji-won sit down to discuss what they saw. Ji-won is initially overwhelmed by the flood of memories, but Dr. Kim assures him that it's completely normal. Ji-won then begins to recount his memories to Dr. Kim, including the accident and some of the struggles that he's had since then. Dr. Kim is able to offer him some insights into his condition, and Ji-won leaves feeling hopeful.
The episode ends with a cliffhanger as Dr. Kim receives a mysterious phone call from someone who seems to know about his technology. Ji-soo is also seen lurking around the clinic, suggesting that she may have some ulterior motives for writing the story.
Overall, Chapter 1 sets up a compelling premise for the show and introduces us to some intriguing characters. The memory-reading technology is an intriguing concept that leaves us wondering how it will be used and what kind of challenges with which Dr. Kim will have to grapple. With strong performances and a well-paced plot, Dr. Brain promises to be an exciting new addition to the sci-fi genre.
