Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet season 4 episode 4 is titled "When Horses Fly." In this episode, viewers are taken on an adventure to the remote northern Canadian territory of Yukon to watch a team of skilled veterinarians as they work tirelessly to help different animals in need. Dr. Michelle Oakley (the star of the show) is known for her compassionate and expert care for all types of animals, and in this episode, she takes on a number of challenging cases that are not for the faint of heart.
The episode starts with Dr. Oakley getting a call from a family whose beloved horse has a mysterious illness. The animal is in a remote location, so Dr. Oakley has to take a small plane to reach him. Upon arrival, she discovers that the horse is suffering from a severe case of colic. Dr. Oakley and her assistants work quickly to stabilize the horse and transport him back to the clinic where he can receive more intensive care.
Next up, Dr. Oakley travels by boat to the remote village of Teslin to treat a family's miniature donkey. The animal has a large piece of wood stuck in his hoof, which has caused a painful abscess. Dr. Oakley has to carefully extract the wood and administer pain relief to the donkey.
Later, Dr. Oakley is called to help a local family whose horse has a severe leg wound. The injury is so severe that it requires surgery to fix it. However, due to the remote location, Dr. Oakley has to perform the surgery outside, in sub-zero temperatures. As if that wasn't challenging enough, the horse is also incredibly skittish and refuses to stay still. But Dr. Oakley and her team are determined, and after several hours of hard work, they are able to successfully complete the procedure.
The episode concludes with Dr. Oakley heading back to the clinic to check on a flock of exotic chickens that she treated previously. The birds had been attacked by a predator, leaving them with serious injuries. However, thanks to Dr. Oakley's expert care, the birds are now on the road to recovery.
Overall, "When Horses Fly" is a thrilling episode that showcases the incredible skills and dedication of Dr. Oakley and her team. From performing surgeries in freezing temperatures to extracting foreign objects from a miniature donkey's hoof, the challenges faced by Dr. Oakley and her team are numerous and varied. But despite the obstacles, they never give up on their mission to help the animals of Yukon.
