In the latest episode of Drunk History season 5, titled "Underdogs," viewers are treated to a hilarious and informative exploration of some of history's unsung heroes. As always, some of history's most colorful tales are relayed by inebriated narrators who stumble and slur their way through the retelling - making for an entertaining and informative experience for viewers.

The episode opens with a somewhat unorthodox version of the story of boxer Jack Johnson, the first African American heavyweight champion. Narrator John Gemberling tells the tale with a good amount of humor and flair, while actor Jordan Rock plays the part of Johnson. The tale is equal parts inspiring and tragic, as viewers learn about the many obstacles Johnson had to overcome in order to achieve his dream of being a champion. From facing off against racism and accusations of immorality, to finding the courage to stand up for himself despite the threat of imprisonment, Johnson's story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit.

Next up, viewers are treated to the story of how Harriet Tubman helped lead slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad. The narrator of this segment, Amber Ruffin, imbues the tale with a healthy dose of humor and sarcasm, making for a refreshing take on a story that has been told countless times before. Actress Juno Temple takes on the role of Tubman, and does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of the legendary freedom fighter. The story is both informative and entertaining, and leaves viewers with a newfound appreciation for Tubman's bravery and ingenuity.

The episode's third segment tells the tale of the great Depression-era baseball team, the House of David. Narrator Allan McLeod tells the story with a good amount of enthusiasm, and is clearly having a great time sharing the team's colorful history. From their unusual religious beliefs (the players all sported beards and long hair in honor of the biblical figure of Samson), to their impressive winning record, the House of David is a team that deserves to be remembered. Actor Stephen Merchant takes on the role of team founder Benjamin Purnell, and does an excellent job of bringing the eccentric religious leader to life.

Finally, the episode wraps up with a tale of the first female graduate of Harvard Law School, Belva Lockwood. Narrator Jen Kirkman tells the story with a good amount of humor, and the segment benefits from the strong performances of Sarah Burns as Lockwood and Thomas Middleditch as her husband. Lockwood's life was full of impressive accomplishments, from fighting for women's rights to boldly challenging the male-dominated legal system of her time. Her story is both inspiring and informative, and leaves viewers with a newfound appreciation for the many contributions of women throughout history.

Overall, "Underdogs" is a strong episode of Drunk History that offers a fun and informative exploration of some of history's most unsung heroes. With strong performances from the show's talented cast of actors, and narrators who are clearly having a great time sharing these tales, it makes for a highly entertaining and enjoyable viewing experience. Fans of the show will not be disappointed, and newcomers will likely find themselves quickly won over by its unique blend of humor and history.
