Ep 12. Good Samaritans

In season 6, episode 12 of Drunk History titled "Good Samaritans," host Derek Waters introduces three tales of kindness and compassion throughout history, as told by inebriated narrators.

The first story, narrated by comedian Moses Storm, is the uplifting tale of Fred Rogers, better known as Mister Rogers. Storm describes how Rogers used his children's television program to spread love, acceptance, and kindness to generations of viewers. From his famous catchphrase "Won't you be my neighbor?" to his refusal to compromise on his values, Rogers' legacy continues to inspire kindness and empathy today.

The second story, told by writer and comedian Amber Ruffin, centers on the life of Tim Duncan, a retired NBA star famous for his quiet leadership and philanthropy. Ruffin recounts Duncan's childhood in St. Croix, where he grew up playing basketball with a homemade hoop and eventually caught the attention of scouts in the United States. Despite his success on the court, Duncan never lost sight of the importance of giving back - he started a foundation to help hurricane victims in his home country and used his massive wealth to support various charitable causes.

Finally, writer and comedian J.D. Amato tells the touching story of Carlotta Walls LaNier, one of the Little Rock Nine students who integrated Central High School in Arkansas in 1957. Amato explains how LaNier's bravery in the face of horrific discrimination and violence inspired her to become an advocate for civil rights and education reform. LaNier never lost sight of the importance of standing up for what's right and making the world a better place, a lesson that still resonates today.

Throughout the episode, Waters and his guests interject with their own humorous commentary, adding a lighthearted touch to these heartwarming stories. Viewers will come away from "Good Samaritans" feeling inspired to spread kindness and spread positivity in their own lives.
