Linda married John, a charming and successful man who seemed like the perfect husband. However, she soon discovered that he had a dark side and a violent temper. John would fly off the handle and beat Linda severely, leaving her bruised and traumatized.

Linda shares that John's behavior towards her got worse after the birth of their son, Jason. John became obsessed with the idea of raising a perfect child and would go to terrible lengths to achieve it. He would beat Jason for not meeting his expectations, leaving him bruised and traumatized, just like Linda. Linda shares how she tried to leave John several times, but he always managed to find her and bring her back home.

Things take a dark turn when John murders a man who tries to intervene in one of his attacks on Linda. He is caught by the police and sentenced to life in prison. Linda finally has the chance to escape her brutal husband and start over with her son. However, she soon discovers that John is still controlling their lives from behind bars.

John sends her cryptic letters that make her believe he will one day come back and harm her and Jason. Linda describes the fear and paranoia she experiences daily, never feeling safe enough to let her guard down. She also shares that Jason inherited some of John's traits and became abusive towards her, forcing her to make the difficult decision to send him away to a juvenile detention center.
