The FedExCup Playoffs is a golf tournament hosted by PGA TOUR, Inc. that consists of a series of four events that take place during the month of August and September each year. The tournament features the top 125 golfers from the previous year's PGA TOUR season who are competing for the season-long FedExCup points race.
The FedExCup points race is a system that assigns points to golfers based on their performance in each event throughout the season. The points are accumulated during the regular season and the top 125 golfers at the end of the season qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs. The four events of the playoffs are The Northern Trust, BMW Championship, TOUR Championship, and TOUR Championship Finale.
The Northern Trust is the first event of the FedExCup Playoffs and takes place at a different golf course each year. The 2021 tournament was held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. The top 70 golfers from The Northern Trust move on to the BMW Championship.
The BMW Championship is the second event of the playoffs and takes place at a different golf course each year. The 2021 tournament was held at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. The top 30 golfers from the BMW Championship move on to the TOUR Championship.
The TOUR Championship is the third event of the playoffs and takes place at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The 2021 tournament will be held from September 2-5, 2021. The top 30 golfers in the FedExCup standings qualify for the TOUR Championship with the top 5 golfers being guaranteed the FedExCup title with a victory at East Lake.
The TOUR Championship Finale is a bonus pool event that takes place at East Lake Golf Club immediately after the TOUR Championship. The top 30 golfers in the final FedExCup standings split a bonus pool of $60 million with the FedExCup champion receiving $15 million.
