Ep 1. Gambling With the Rules

The episode "Gambling With the Rules" kicks off the second season of Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa. The show follows El Moussa as he helps novice and seasoned real estate investors navigate the ins and outs of house flipping. In this episode, El Moussa takes on a couple who are looking to flip a house in order to help fund their daughter's college education.

The couple, Jenna and Ben, are looking to flip a house in Orange County, California. Jenna is a stay-at-home mom while Ben is an avid poker player. They have a budget of $200,000 and are hoping to make a profit of around $50,000 in six months. However, they quickly run into some roadblocks when they realize that their initial budget was too low for the area they are looking to buy in.

As they tour potential properties, El Moussa advises them to focus on the potential of the property rather than the aesthetics. He suggests that they look for houses with good bones that just need some cosmetic upgrades rather than ones that require major renovation. Eventually, they find a house that fits their criteria and make an offer.

However, their problems are far from over. When they hire a contractor to do some of the renovations, El Moussa quickly realizes that the contractor is cutting corners and not providing the quality of work that is necessary for a successful flip. El Moussa steps in and lays down the law, threatening to fire the contractor if he doesn't do a better job.

Despite the setbacks, Jenna and Ben push through and finish the renovations. However, when it's time to put the house on the market, they realize that they may have missed the mark in terms of what buyers are looking for in the area. El Moussa once again steps in and helps them stage the house in a way that will appeal to buyers.
