It is revealed that the Carters had a falling out with their former business partner, Amos Hartley, Marian's husband, over ownership of a valuable pearl, known as the Mother of Pearl. The Carters accused Amos of stealing the pearl, and tensions between the families were high. When Marian's baby was born, the Carters offered to buy the pearl from Amos for a large sum of money. He refused, and soon after, the baby disappeared.

Frankie and Trudy suspect that the Carters may have had something to do with the baby's disappearance, so they decide to pay a visit to the Carter residence and question the family. They engage in a tense conversation with the head of the household, Mr. Carter, played by Ron Lea, and his daughter, who both deny any involvement in the kidnapping.

Despite the pushback from the Carter family, Frankie and Trudy press on with their investigation. They eventually discover the whereabouts of the missing baby and are faced with a dangerous situation that puts their own lives at risk.

"Mother of Pearl" is an intriguing and engaging introduction to the Frankie Drake Mysteries series. It showcases the stunning costumes and architecture of the 1920s and captures the essence of the era while keeping the audience on the edge of their seats with its gripping storyline. The episode leaves viewers eager to see what other thrilling cases Frankie and Trudy will be solving in the rest of the season.
