Ep 5. The Stick

Miles Daly is back in action in season 3 of Get Shorty, the crime comedy-drama series based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard. In episode 5, titled "The Stick," Miles finds himself in a tricky situation with the DA's office hot on his trail.

Rick suggests that they use a "stick," a term used in the film industry for a device that allows filmmakers to access money for production before the film is released. Miles and Rick decide to create a fake movie production budget and use the stick to access $1.2 million to cover any potential losses or penalties from the DA's subpoena.

But creating a fake movie production is easier said than done. Miles and Rick have to come up with a convincing story that will fool the stick's owners into believing their film is legitimate. They enlist the help of an artist to create storyboards, and Rick starts to audition actors for their fake movie.

Their plan seems to be working until Louis Darnell catches on to what they're doing. He's not happy about Miles and Rick using Amara's money for their own benefit and threatens to tell her what they're up to. Miles tries to convince Louis that they're using the money for a good cause, but Louis doesn't want to hear it.

As the episode comes to a close, Miles, Rick, and their team of actors are preparing for their pitch to the stick's owners. But with Louis breathing down their necks and the DA's office closing in, their plan might not be enough to keep them out of trouble.
