In the fourth episode of Ghosts season 1, titled Dinner Party, Alison and Mike host a dinner party for their new friends. The only problem is that their new friends are all ghosts haunting their old house. Alison is trying to sell the property and needs to impress a potential buyer, but the ghosts are making it difficult to keep up appearances.
The episode opens with Alison and Mike frantically trying to clean up the house before their guests arrive. They are hopeful that the ghosts will be on their best behavior for the evening, but they soon realize that this is wishful thinking. Each ghost has their own agenda, and they don't always play well with others.
The cast of characters for the evening includes a World War I soldier, a 1960s pop star, a Victorian noblewoman, a scoutmaster, and a rather aggressive viking. As the guests arrive, they each present their own unique challenges. The soldier is obsessed with military strategy and insists on giving a lecture on trench warfare. The pop star is still enamored with fame and fortune, and spends most of the evening trying to find a way to become a ghost sensation.
The noblewoman is elegant, but snobbish, and doesn't hide her disdain for Alison and Mike's humble abode. The scoutmaster is jovial and friendly, but can't help but recount embarrassing and cringe-worthy stories about his former scouts. The viking, well, the viking is just looking for a fight.
As dinner is served, tensions rise and the ghosts become increasingly unruly. The soldier starts barking orders at the other ghosts, the pop star tries to start a sing-along, and the noblewoman insults Alison's cooking. Any semblance of a civilized dinner quickly devolves into chaos.
Alison and Mike try to keep a lid on the situation, but they are soon overwhelmed. In a moment of frustration, Alison accidentally spills wine on the viking, which sets him off. A melee ensues, with the viking using chairs and cutlery as weapons.
The evening comes to an abrupt end when Alison's potential buyer arrives early and sees the destruction. Despite the chaos, the buyer is intrigued by the haunted nature of the property and decides to make an offer. The ghosts are elated to hear that the property may finally be sold, but Alison and Mike are left to clean up the mess.
Overall, Dinner Party is an entertaining episode that highlights the challenges of living with a group of unpredictable ghosts. The characters are quirky and entertaining, and the situations they find themselves in are both humorous and occasionally tense. While the episode's plot is fairly self-contained, it also moves the overarching story forward by introducing the idea that Alison may be able to sell the house after all.
