In the fifth episode of season three of Ghosts, titled "Something To Share?", the focus is on the character of Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) as she struggles to come to terms with her own personal demons. Alison is forced to face her past head-on when a long-lost friend from her university days unexpectedly shows up at Button House.
Maggie (Sian Clifford) is thrilled to be reunited with Alison and brings with her a box of memories from their time together. However, Alison doesn't share Maggie's excitement and instead tries to distance herself from her old friend. As the episode progresses, we begin to see why Alison is so hesitant to reconnect with Maggie.
Despite her reluctance, the two women begin to reminisce about their wild university days and the secrets they shared with each other. Through a series of flashbacks, we see Alison struggle with her identity as a young adult and the difficult choices she had to make to escape her past.
Meanwhile, Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) is dealing with his own set of problems, as he tries to motivate the spirits to clean up the house before an important historical society inspection. Mike brings in a professional cleaner, Lucy (Medusa Adu-Poku), to help but soon finds himself distracted by her flirtatious behavior.
The rest of the ghosts are also dealing with their own problems, with Julian (Simon Farnaby) still struggling to come to terms with his own mortality and Thomas (Ben Willbond) trying to find his place in the world. This episode is a great example of the show's ability to seamlessly blend humor and pathos, as the characters deal with both personal and supernatural challenges.
Overall, "Something To Share?" is a standout episode in an already stellar season of Ghosts. Charlotte Ritchie shines in a rare dramatic turn, as she explores her character's complex past. The episode also delivers its fair share of laughs, with the usual hijinks from the Button House ghosts and a hilarious subplot involving Mike and Lucy. Fans of the show will not be disappointed with this episode, which proves once again why Ghosts is one of the best comedies on television.
