Hana Yori Dango season 1 episode 2, titled "The Worst First Kiss!" follows the story of Makino Tsukushi as she starts her new life in Eitoku High School. Despite the many challenges she faced in the first episode, she manages to hold her own and make some new friends. This episode sees her dealing with an even greater challenge, however, when she inadvertently ends up on a date with the school's most popular and wealthiest student, Domyoji Tsukasa.
The episode starts with Makino's classmate, Sakurako Sanjo, approaching her about Domyoji's attraction to her. She warns Makino to stay away from him since he is nearly untouchable due to his status in the school and society at large. Makino, who has no interest in dating someone like Domyoji, brushes it off and goes on with her day.
Later on, while cleaning up trash as part of a school punishment, she comes across Domyoji and his friends playing basketball. They quickly notice her and force her to join them in a game. Despite her initial reluctance, she manages to hold her own and even impresses Domyoji with her skills. He then invites her to a day out, which she initially thinks is a joke.
However, when Domyoji shows up in a limousine to pick her up, she realizes that it's for real. The two then set out on a whirlwind tour of the city, starting with a fancy lunch at a restaurant. Domyoji proves to be a difficult companion, however, belittling Makino at every opportunity and acting like a spoiled child.
Things then take a turn for the worse when Domyoji insists on taking Makino to the beach. While there, he takes her through a dangerous cave, and they get stuck in the middle. In the heat of the moment, Domyoji leans in for a kiss, which Makino is not ready for. She manages to push him away, and they escape the cave, both shaken up.
The rest of the episode sees Makino struggling to come to terms with what happened on the date and how she feels about Domyoji. At school the next day, Domyoji acts like nothing happened, which only adds to Makino's confusion. She then confides in her friend, Yuriko, who advises her to stay away from him and focus on her studies.
Overall, Hana Yori Dango season 1 episode 2 shows the strain that comes with being a student in an elite school and having to navigate relationships with people who come from completely different backgrounds. Makino's experience with Domyoji is a classic example of how first impressions can be deceptive, and how people's personalities can be influenced by their surroundings. It'll be interesting to see where the show takes their relationship from here and how Makino will continue to grow as a student and a person.
