Through A Glass, Darkly is the eighteenth episode of season four of the show Highlander: The Series. In this episode, Duncan MacLeod, the protagonist, is still haunted by the death of his friend and fellow Immortal, Richie, who was killed by another Immortal, who also happened to be his former student. Meanwhile, Duncan has been struggling to stop a group of terrorists who have been targeting the city of Paris, where the show is set.
As the episode begins, Duncan is confronted by a previous foe, Xavier St. Cloud, who is the leader of the terrorist group that has been targeting Paris. St. Cloud tells Duncan that he has a plan to destroy the Eiffel Tower, and that he will only spare the tower if Duncan agrees to a duel. Duncan agrees, and the two Immortals begin to fight. During the fight, however, something strange happens. Duncan suddenly finds himself transported back in time to the year 1746.
As he tries to figure out what has happened to him, Duncan encounters a woman named Anne, who he had known during his previous trip to the past, when he had been fighting in the Jacobite Uprising in Scotland. However, this time things are different. Anne is engaged to be married to a man named Robert, who Duncan quickly realizes is already dead in his present time. Duncan knows that he cannot stay in the past, as his presence could have disastrous consequences for the timeline. However, he soon realizes that he may not have a choice in the matter. As he tries to get back to his own time, he finds himself drawn deeper and deeper into the past, and into Anne's life.
Meanwhile, in the present day, the city of Paris is facing a new threat. St. Cloud has followed Duncan back in time, and is using his knowledge of the future to bring about the destruction of the Eiffel Tower. It is up to Duncan's friends, Joe Dawson and Amanda, to work together to stop St. Cloud and prevent the destruction of the tower.
Through A Glass, Darkly is a powerful and emotional episode that explores the nature of time and the consequences of our actions. The episode is expertly crafted, with a strong script that keeps the viewer engaged and hooked from beginning to end. Adrian Paul delivers yet another outstanding performance as Duncan MacLeod, effortlessly capturing the character's mix of strength, vulnerability, and determination.
The episode is also notable for its stunning visuals. The scenes set in the past are beautifully shot, with a rich, detailed look that perfectly captures the 18th century setting. Meanwhile, the present-day sequences are filled with tension and suspense, as Joe and Amanda race against time to save the Eiffel Tower.
